Wax Prep - The very first step in metal casting. A special wax is melted and injected into the RTV mold using the very high-tech Turkey Baster tool (I swear, the people at the supermarket must thing I run a fertility clinic or something...) and allowed to cool. Once popped out of the mold, the wax model is cleaned of flashing (those little seams along the outside edge), carved for detail and air bubbles are filled as needed. An X-Acto blade is used mostly (thus explaining all those little scars on our hands...), but also a variety of sculpting tools, brown patching wax and a Hot Wax Pen tool for small welds. Wax carving is incredibly detail-oriented and time-consuming, as each piece has to be consistent with the last, and, if not perfect, then pretty damn close. After all, the Armoury has a reputation to uphold and I can be a Nit-Picky Bastard for detail.
