  Mold Making

Sometimes I think I make the fattest molds on earth, but they do the job, so... I use a Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) two-part latex rubber from Visolox for all my molds (partly for its minty aroma).

I've gotten in the habit of making two-part molds, requiring that I create a frame (foam-core board works nicely), pack the model to its half-way point in Sculpy III, pour the mixed RTV and finally vacuum it to remove any air bubbles from the surface of the model.

The mold rubber cures in about 10 hours and I simply flip the mold frame, clean out the clay, spray a little mold release in & pour the second half; it's time consuming, but usually flawless and the molds will most likely out-live my sorry butt.
